A near-invisible gaming setup is one of the coolest projects ever featured on the Linus Tech Tips channel. Their goal was to create a hidden desk that packs a powerful AMD Ryzen CPU, desktop-class graphics, and a fully modular I/O interface powered by the Framework system.

Linus Tech Tips Project Overview

Linus’s team kicked things off by cutting into the desktop to get it ready for the custom build. Along the way, they pointed out a detail they really appreciated: “Vernal goes the extra mile and pre-installs threaded inserts, making it easier to install the legs, keyboard trays, or other accessories without damaging the desktop. That's going to help us modify this thing.”

First, the team removed the mainboard from the bottom of a Framework Laptop and mounted it on a 3D-printed tray to hold both the motherboard and its cooling solution. For the power setup, they bridged the green and black wires to provide power primarily to the GPU. The integrated unit was then placed into a recessed section of the desk, and the GPU was positioned in a pre-cut slot.

To keep the desktop clean and functional, the team built a modular interface that includes USB-A, USB-C, HDMI ports, and even a dedicated cup holder. A wooden frame with a transparent cover hides the motherboard and fans from view, while the fingerprint sensor and power button are subtly tucked under Vernal’s small riser. Once the desk is flipped back into place, the acrylic panel and ventilation grilles are nearly invisible from a normal viewing angle.

After connecting the modular I/O, Linus tested the setup:

CPU: 4 GHz

Temperature: 78°F

Memory: 32 GB @ 5600 MT/s

Gaming: 1440p at 60fps, smooth performance

The result is exactly what Linus envisioned—a high-performance PC seamlessly integrated into a sleek, minimal desk form factor. That's truly exciting!
